2. CHOOSING A HOME INSPECTOR
Reputation:
The company you select should have a sound reputation for honesty and attention to detail. Get references for the inspector you are looking to hire and check them out!
Certification & Training:
Make sure the home inspectors receive formal training and are certified to do home inspections. They should also have extensive on-going training through Home Inspection Associations.
Insurance:
You should make sure the company carries Errors & Omissions Insurance, General Liability Insurance, and Workers’ Compensation as protection for both the inspector and yourself.
Report:
The inspector you hire should belong to an association for home inspectors such as the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI).
Technical Background:
Ask the inspector about his technical background and accreditation.
